Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Josef Albers, Anni Albers and other major artists and designers taught or worked at the school, while its workshops explored everything from textiles and lighting to furniture and printing. Its ideas developed alongside related movements such as De Stijl, whose geometric abstraction and emphasis on universal forms had a profound influence on modern design.
Although the Bauhaus existed for only fourteen years before Nazi pressure forced its closure in 1933, its principles spread around the world and continue to shape modern design.
